Anime is actually a shortened version of the word “animation” and refers to the distinctly unique Japanese animation. Anime is a genre of movies that can be anything from kids tv shows to sci fi’s and action movies.
Anime
Anime in English usually refers to a style of animation originating in Japan, It’s heavily influenced by the manga (Japanese comics) style and typically featuring characters with large eyes, big hair and elongated limbs, exaggerated facial expressions, brush-stroked outlines, limited motion and other distinctive features. Anime spans many genres, from silly romantic comedies (Marmalade Boy) to fantasy adventures (Vision of Escaflowne and Fushigi Yuugi), high-tech science fiction (Macross Plus), and much more. Anime offers insight into the Japanese culture and often plays upon assorted Asian myths, symbols, and the martial arts. Anime’s rabid fan base in Japan and other areas around the world spends more than $5 billion on film and DVDs and an additional $18 billion on anime-linked merchandise.
Manga
Manga had emerged during the 1950s, when a prolific illustrator named Osamu Tezuka began publishing stories in comic-book form. Because Manga Entertainment originated in the UK, the term occurs commonly outside Japan. Many people might say “Manga are Japanese comics, and Anime is the Japanese version of animation. In most manga, the men and women aren’t necessarily exaggerated extremes of their gender stereotypes, and they wear things other than skin-tight costumes. Naruto, and Inuyasha are very popular Manga Series.
Character
Characters that are shocked or surprised will perform a “face fault”, in which they display an extremely exaggerated expression. The stories are often different, in different media platforms. But what remains the same are the characters. The varied use of animation allowed artists to create characters and settings that did not look Japanese at all. While toymakers and TV broadcasters have made billions from marketing anime characters, most studios are run by artists who rose through the ranks of animators but have little experience in management.
Anime is distinct from American cartoons in their depth of characterization and plot (among other things). Anime is also the focus of an intellectual property debate rising from its obsessed fans around the world who dub their own translations onto versions of Japanese television shows often only hours after they are shown in Japan. In North America, the public reaction to anime is still mixed, with lingering stereotypes of television series like Speed Racer combined with sensationalized reports of the more risque adult entertainment productions.
